The men's volleyball team picked up their first win of the season, 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-5), against St. Joseph's College Brooklyn on Friday evening in Brooklyn, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 1-1 overall. The Bears drop to 0-1.
Freshman
Ryan Willix led John Jay with a game-high nine kills, four aces, and four digs. Freshman
Steven Alvarado dished out a game-high 20 assists and picked up a game-high seven service aces. Junior
Alexander Santana recorded seven kills and five aces. Senior
Francisco Miranda totaled six kills.
The Bloodhounds started the first set on a 5-2 run. After leading 8-6, John Jay scored four straight points to go up by six. The guests took the first set after ending on a 6-2 run. The Bloodhounds opened up the second period with two 3-0 runs to lead 6-2. With a 10-6 advantage, John Jay tallied the next seven of eight points. The Bloodhounds went up 2-0 after scoring the final five points. John Jay began the third on an 11-1 run. The Bloodhounds then registered two 5-0 runs to take the final set.
John Jay totaled 31 kills, 26 assists, 23 service aces, and 16 digs.
The Bloodhounds take on Mount Ida on Saturday, January 21, at 11:00 am on the campus of SJC Brooklyn.
