The men's volleyball team defeated Mount Ida in a five-set thriller, 3-2 (24-26, 25-23, 22-25, 26-24, 15-13), on Saturday afternoon. The Bloodhounds followed that up with a sweep over St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-15), on Sunday morning. John Jay is now on a three-game win streak and improves to 3-1 overall.
In the match against Mount Ida, junior
Juan DeJesus recorded his first double-double of the season with a game-high 21 kills and 13 digs. Freshman
Steven Alvarado registered a team-high 46 assists and seven digs. Freshman
Ryan Willix picked up 12 kills and four digs. Junior
Ivan Yeung tallied 13 digs and senior
Francisco Miranda had nine kills. Freshman
Edwin Hernandez totaled eight kills, eight digs, and a game-high two blocks.
In the match against the Bears of SJC, junior
Alexander Santana finished with four kills and a game-high eight aces. Hernandez had a game-high seven kills and Alvarado dished out a game-high 11 assists. Freshman Jerson Guaman picked up three kills and four digs.
John Jay totaled 80 kills, 73 assists, 24 service aces, four blocks, and 65 digs in the two games.
The Bloodhounds travel to St. Joseph's College Long Island on Wednesday, February 8, at 7:00 pm.
