Four Players Finish in Double Digits As Men's Basketball Powers by CCNY

The men's basketball team stormed past City College, 72-54, on Wednesday night at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds improve to 6-12 on the year and 5-6 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Beavers drop to 9-9 overall and 7-4 in the conference. 

Sophomore Essien Epps recorded a game-high 17 points, seven rebounds, and a game-high five steals. Junior MiKing Richardson registered 14 points, a game-high five assists, and five rebounds. Freshman Doug Levy finished with 14 points, five boards, a game-high four blocks, and two steals. Freshman Wyatt Harkins totaled 13 points and senior Kiernan Hayes grabbed a game-high 11 boards. 

CCNY scored the first bucket of the game but John Jay responded on an 8-0 run to lead by six. John Jay increased its lead to 21-10 on a layup by Epps with 12:37 left in the first half. The Beavers cut the deficit to three after scoring eight straight points. A layup by Levy and two free throws by Harkins increased the advantage back up to seven. The Bloodhounds ended the first period on an 11-4 run to head into halftime up 38-26.

Harkins opened the second with a three pointer and four minutes later, Richardson nailed a three to put John Jay ahead 50-32. CCNY would get as close as 15 but the Bloodhounds would hold on for their fifth conference win of the season.  

John Jay finished 25-for-53 (47.2%) from the floor, 7-for-16 (43.8%) from behind the arc, and 15-for-20 (75.0%) from the free throw line. 

The Bloodhounds travel to Lehman College on Saturday, January 28, for a conference game at 3:00 pm.
