Steele & Geraldo's Double-Double Propels Women's Volleyball Past SJC Brooklyn 3-1

The women's volleyball team defeated St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, 3-1 (25-6, 20-25, 25-18, 25-8), on Tuesday evening at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds improve to 6-6 on the season. The Bears drop to 3-5 overall. 

Junior Brittany Steele recorded her third straight double-double with a game-high 15 kills and 12 digs. Freshman Brianna Geraldo also picked up a double-double, her third of the year, with 12 kills, 12 digs, and three service aces. Sophomore Kimberly Rodriguez dished out a game-high 47 assists to go along with a game-high four service aces. Senior Anna Gevorgyan finished with a game-high 14 digs. Junior Nyla Lloyd-Clarke and Mballou Berete combined for 13 kills. 

John Jay started the match on a 6-0 run and then went on a 9-1 run to break open the set. The Bloodhounds closed up the opening set recording the final five points. With John Jay leading 2-1 in the second, the Bears fired off six straight points to lead by five. St. Joseph's then registered four of the next five points to increase their lead to 11-4. Later on in the set and the visitors up by 20-4, the Bears went on a 4-0 run and eventually tied up the match at one apiece. 

SJC started the third period on a 4-1 run but John Jay responded on a 7-2 run to lead 8-6. The Bears regained the advantage, 10-9. John Jay put together five straight points only to see St. Joseph's follow with four straight to tie the score, 14-14. The Bloodhounds broke open the set with a 9-1 run to lead two games to one. In the fourth, John Jay got off to a 5-0 start. Up by six, the Bloodhounds tallied a 11-1 run to lead to a 3-1 victory. 

John Jay totaled 49 kills, 48 assists, 15 service aces, and 59 digs.
