The men's volleyball team went 1-2 on their road trip up in Boston on Friday and Saturday. The Bloodhounds defeated Lesley University, 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-20), before falling to Elms College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-20), and MIT, 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-20). John Jay is now 4-6 on the season.
In the match against Lesley, freshman
Steven Alvarado recorded a game-high 26 assists and a game-high four aces. Freshmen Krystian Surdel and
Ryan Willix finished with a game-high six kills and three digs each. Junior
Ivan Yeung picked up four kills, five digs, and three aces. Freshman
Kellvin Ortiz and Jerson Guaman each had four kills. Junior
Alexander Santana registered four kills and three service aces. Sophomore
Michael Chabla tallied four aces and junior
Brandon Dolores added a game-high seven digs.
Against Elms, junior
Juan DeJesus led the way with a team-high eight kills, four digs, and a game-high three service aces. Santana finished with seven kills and three digs. Alvarado dished out a team-high 24 assists. Senior Francisco Mirano and freshman
Godwin Sequeria had a team-high six digs each.
In the final match of the trip vs. MIT, Miranda and freshman
Edwin Hernandez each recorded a team-high six kills and five digs. DeJesus tallied five kills and five digs. Alvarado finished with a team-high 17 assists.
For the road trip, John Jay totaled 78 kills, 74 assists, 29 service aces, and 89 digs.
The Bloodhounds open up CUNYAC play on Monday, February 20, when they travel to Baruch College. John Jay will face Baruch at 10:00 am, followed by Lehman at noon.
