The #3 women's volleyball team defeated #6 CCNY, 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-9), on Tuesday night at the Doghouse. With the win, the Bloodhounds improve to 15-10 overall. The Beavers end their season with an overall record of 9-14.
Sophomore
Brianna Geraldo fell two digs shy of a double-double with 11 kills and a team-high eight digs. Freshman
Niovis Monsanto finished with 11 kills and five digs. Junior
Kimberly Rodriguez dished out a match-high 29 assists and freshman
Stephanie Marcano recorded seven digs and three service aces. Senior
Nyla Lloyd-Clarke tallied eight kills and three total blocks. Junior
Mirialis Almanzar totaled four kills, a match-high four total blocks, and three aces.
The Bloodhounds won five of the first six points but a 4-0 run by the guests tied the set at 5-5. With CCNY leading 9-7, John Jay rallied off four straight to regain the lead. With the score 18-13 in favor of the Bloodhounds, the Beavers put together five points to once again tie the score. John Jay responded on a 7-2 run to take the opening set.
The second period went back-and-forth as the Bloodhounds held a 6-5 advantage. With CCNY trailing 11-7, the visitors scored three straight to cut the deficit to one. John Jay increased its lead to 21-15 but the Beavers fought back to trim it to 21-19. With the Bloodhounds leading 24-20, CCNY registered three straight but a kill by Lloyd-Clarke gave John Jay a 2-0 advantage.
In the third set, the Bloodhounds started on a 6-2 run. Leading 9-5, John Jay broke open the period with a 10-0 run to secure the victory and send the Bloodhounds to the next round.
The Bloodhounds will face #2 Brooklyn College on Friday, November 2, in the CUNYAC semifinals at 4:00 pm at Baruch College. The winner of this match and the winner of #1 Hunter vs. #4 Baruch will play in the CUNYAC Championship at 8:00 pm.
