Brianna Geraldo's Double-Double Powers Women's Volleyball to 3-1 Win Over Saint Elizabeth

The women's volleyball team defeated the College of Saint Elizabeth, 3-1 (25-20, 25-13, 19-25, 25-12), on Thursday evening at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds improve to 4-5 on the season. The Eagles drop to 4-9 overall. 

Sophomore Brianna Geraldo recorded her third straight double-double and fifth on the year with a match-high 15 kills and match-high 15 digs. Junior Mirialis Almanzar and senior Mballou Berete notched 10 and nine kills, respectively. Junior Kimberly Rodriguez dished out a game-high 43 assists to go along with a pair of aces. Freshman Niovis Monsanto tallied nine kills and sophomore Sherine Bachtarzi had a team-high three service aces. Freshman Stephanie Marcano finished with 13 digs. 

The Bloodhounds took eight of the first nine points in the opening set. The Eagles fought back to trim the deficit to 10-8. John Jay responded with seven straight. The visitors made a late comeback but the Bloodhounds won the set 25-20. The Bloodhounds opened the second period on a 9-4 run and followed on an 8-1 run to cruise to a 25-13 victory to go up 2-0. 

Saint Elizabeth stormed out to an early 5-2 advantage in the third. The guests followed on 3-0 and 4-0 runs to lead 12-4. The Bloodhounds fought back on a 6-2 run but the Eagles won four of the final five points to cut the deficit to 2-1. 

After dropping the first point, John Jay recorded eight of the next nine points. Up by seven, the Bloodhounds put together four straight and clinched the victory on back-to-back kills by Geraldo.  

John Jay totaled 49 kills, 46 assists, 52 digs, and seven service aces. 

The Bloodhounds hit the road for a non-conference doubleheader at Wesley College on Saturday, September 29. The first match is scheduled to start at 11:00 am.
