The women's volleyball team lost its first two matches of the 2018 season on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Brooklyn College. The Bloodhounds fell to Brooklyn College, 3-0 (25-21, 25-10, 25-16), and Hunter College, 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-23).
In the match against the Bulldogs of Brooklyn, senior
Mballou Berete led the John Jay offense with a game-high nine kills and junior
Kimberly Rodriguez dished out 18 assists. Sophomore
Brianna Geraldo tallied a team-high 15 digs and three kills. In their collegiate debuts, freshman
Stephanie Marcano had 13 digs and freshman
Niovis Monsanto finished with four digs and three kills. Junior
Mirialis Almanzar added a game-high five solo blocks.
In the second match of the afternoon, Monsanto led the squad with a team-high nine kills and two total blocks. Rodriguez finished with 24 assists to go along with three digs. Geraldo added five kills and eight digs. Marcano had eight digs and Almanzar registered a match-high 10 total blocks.
For the day, John Jay totaled 46 kills, 45 assists, 73 digs, 23 total blocks, and four service aces.
Rodriguez is now three assists shy of 1,000 career.
The Bloodhounds travel to St. Joseph's College Brooklyn on Tuesday, September 11, for a non-conference match at 6:00 pm.
