The men's volleyball team picked up two victories in their season opener on Saturday afternoon at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds shut out Eastern Nazarene, 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-20), and followed that up with another 3-0 win in straight sets (25-9, 25-15, 25-11) over the College of Mount St. Vincent.
Junior
Krystian Surdel led the John Jay offense against Eastern Nazarene with a match-high 11 kills and four digs. In his college debut, freshman
Alejandro Gallardo finished with nine kills. Sophomore
Anthony Francois recorded eight kills and a match-high two service aces.
Sophomore
Rintaro Kato tallied a match-high 13 digs. Junior
Godwin Sequeira dished out a game-high 25 assists and sophomore
Dylan Senkiw had five kills.
Against Mount Saint Vincent, Gallardo added to his big day with a match-high 12 kills. Surdel finished in double-digits in kills with 10 to go along with four digs. Sequeira notched a game-high 38 assists and four digs.
Francois contributed seven kills, five digs, a match-high three total blocks, and a pair of aces. Senkiw recorded six kills and Kato and senior
Michael Chabla totaled nine digs.
For the day, John Jay totaled 78 kills, 74 assists, 65 digs, 18 total blocks, and 15 service aces.
The Bloodhounds travel to Glenside, PA for a non-conference tri-match on Saturday, January 26. John Jay will face Arcadia University at 1:00 pm, followed by Eastern Mennonite University at 5:00 pm.
