The women's basketball led through three quarters but could not hold on as they suffered a tough 54-49 loss to the College of Staten Island on Wednesday evening at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds fall to 9-9 on the year and 5-5 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Dolphins improve to 15-4 and 9-1 in the conference.
Freshman
Katie Healy led all scorers with a game-high 20 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for her eighth double-double. Junior
Karen Rosario had her best game of the season with a season-high 18 points, eight boards, and a pair of steals.

All'aha Albright finished with seven points and eight rebounds. Junior
Nyasha Howard recorded nine boards, a game-high eight assists, and a game-high two blocks. Sophomore
Jessica Gorman grabbed five rebounds.
John Jay got off to a hot start as they started on a 14-0 run as Healy and Rosario had eight and six, respectively. The Dolphins followed with seven straight points but Healy ended the quarter with a layup to put the Bloodhounds ahead 16-7.
CSI scored the first two points of the second but baskets by Healy, Howard, and Albright increased the lead back up to 13. Staten Island responded on a 9-1 run to cut the deficit to 25-18. At the half, John Jay held a 25-21 advantage.
Healy opened the second half with a layup. Down by five, the Dolphins registered seven of the next nine points to tie the score at 31 apiece. The Bloodhounds quickly regained the lead and went into the final quarter up 37-35.
The visitors took their first lead of the contest after starting on a 7-0 run to lead by five. Rosario made two straight jumpers to cut the lead to three. With 4:33 remaining, CSI held a 49-42 advantage. Healy scored the next five points to trim the deficit to two. However, the Dolphins responded on a 5-0 run to hold on for the road win.
John Jay finished 19-for-54 (35.2%) from the floor, 0-for-9 from behind the arc, and 11-for-20 (55.0%) from the free-throw line.
The Bloodhounds travel to Baruch College on Friday, January 25, for a conference game at 5:30 pm.
