The men's basketball team lost to Rutgers-Camden, 82-71, in the season opener on Wednesday night in Camden, NJ. The Scarlet Raptors improve to 2-1 on the season.
Senior
Doug Levy notched a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Making his Bloodhound debut, senior
Jayson Brower recorded 14 points, six rebounds, a team-high four assists, and a team-high three steals.
Also making his John Jay debut, sophomore
Angel Rivera registered 12 points and a pair of steals. Senior
Luciano Cruz-Fernandez added 11 points and junior
Kyle LaGuardia had seven points and five boards. Junior
Romello Ford picked up nine points.
The hosts had a five point lead at the half to hold a 34-29 advantage. The Bloodhounds evened the score at 38 apiece with 17:37 left in the second period. Leading by three, Rutgers-Camden went on an 8-1 run to go up by 10. John Jay cut the deficit to six but that was as close as they would get as late free-throws sealed the victory.
John Jay finished 25-for-55 (45.5%) from the field, 8-for-22 (36.4%) from the behind the arc, and 13-for-23 (56.5%) from the free-throw line.
