Jayson Brower & Doug Levy Power Men's Basketball Past Maritime 75-55; Brower Nears Triple-Double

The men's basketball team rolled past Maritime College, 75-55, for their first victory of the season on Tuesday night at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds improve to 1-1 on the year. The Privateers drop to 1-4 overall. 

Jayson Brower finished one rebound and two assists shy of a triple-double with a game-high 20 points, a game-high nine boards, and a game-high eight assists. Senior Doug Levy recorded 17 points and seven rebounds. 

Junior Kyle LaGuardia notched 13 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Junior Romello Ford added eight points and four boards and sophomore Angel Rivera finished with a game-high four steals. 

The Bloodhounds got off to a hot start with Brower scoring four of the first five points. Leading by four, John Jay went on an 8-0 run capped off by a three-pointer by Levy to hold a 16-4 advantage. The Privateers responded scoring the next seven points to cut the deficit to five with 11:28 left in the first half. 

John Jay blew open the period on a 13-0 run to increase the advantage to 29-11. The guests chipped at the lead and went into halftime trailing 42-27. 

The first eight minutes of the second half went back-and-forth as John Jay was up 53-39. Maritime went on a 6-0 run but LaGuardia ended it with a layup. With 5:39 on the clock, the Privateers were trailing 60-53. The Bloodhounds sealed the victory after ending the game on a 12-0 run. 

John Jay finished 28-for-59 (47.5%) from the field, 6-for-21 (28.6%) from behind the arc, and 13-for-20 (65.0%) from the free-throw line. 

The Bloodhounds travel to Scranton, PA to take on Stevenson University on Friday, November 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
