Doug Levy Records Double-Double as Men's Basketball Runs by Stevenson; Jayson Brower Finishes With Team-High 20 Points

The men's basketball team defeated Stevenson University, 73-63, in the opening round of the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Electric City Classic on Friday night in Scranton, PA. The Bloodhounds improve to 2-1 on the season. The Mustangs drop to 3-2 overall. 

Senior Doug Levy notched his second double-double of the year with 14 points, a game-high 11 rebounds, and a game-high two blocks. Senior Jayson Brower finished with a team-high 20 points, three assists, and a game-high three steals.

Junior Kyle LaGuardia recorded 14 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Junior Romello Ford dished out a season-high and game-high seven assists to go along with 10 points and four rebounds. 

The Bloodhounds jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the first half. Up by four, Levy sank a three-pointer to put John Jay ahead 15-8 with 10:23 left in the period. The Mustangs cut the deficit to one but Brower drilled a three and Levy made a dunk to increase the lead back up to six. The Bloodhounds went into halftime holding a 28-25 advantage. 

Stevenson took their first lead of the contest, 35-34, with 15:30 on the clock. LaGuardia responded with back-to-back layups and Ford made a layup as John Jay led 40-35 with just over 12 minutes remaining. 

Trailing by 10, the Mustangs scored five straight to trail 47-42. With just under four minutes left on the clock, Levy drained a three-pointer to increase the lead back up to 10 and seal the victory for the Bloodhounds. 

John Jay went 26-for-54 (48.1%) from the floor, 9-for-23 (39.1%) from behind the arc, and 12-for-15 (80.0%) from the free-throw line. 

The Bloodhounds will now face host school Marywood University in the Championship game of the Classic on Saturday, November 23, at 4:00 pm.
