The men's basketball team earned a hard fought 88-77 victory over Medgar Evers on Friday night in Brooklyn, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 9-4 on the season and 3-1 in the conference. The Cougars drop to 4-11 overall and 1-4 in CUNYAC.
All five starters for the Bloodhounds finished with at least 12 points. Senior
Jayson Brower led all scorers with a game-high 20 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and a pair of steals. Senior
Doug Levy finished two rebounds shy of a double-double with 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and a season-high and game-high four blocks. Junior
Kyle LaGuardia registered 16 points, six rebounds, and two blocks.
Sophomore
Angel Rivera tallied 15 points, a career-high eight rebounds, two steals, and a pair of blocks. Freshman
Garrison Watkins recorded a career-high 12 points, a career-high seven assists, and six boards.
With the Bloodhounds leading 8-6 in the opening half, Levy registered five straight points to increase the lead to seven. Trailing by six with 12:43 on the clock, the Cougars went on an 9-2 run to take a 22-21 lead.
With John Jay down by three, the Bloodhounds responded on an 8-0 run with Watkins scoring five straight. The Bloodhounds went into the half holding a 43-36 advantage.
Five minutes into the second period, John Jay increased the lead to 11. With 7:21 left in regulation, Medgar Evers trimmed the deficit to five but senior
Luciano Cruz-Fernandez quickly sank a three-pointer. The Cougars followed on a 5-0 run.
As John Jay led 77-75 with 1:49 to go, the Bloodhounds ended the game on 11-2 run to secure their ninth win of the year.
John Jay went 33-for-70 (47.1%) from the field, 7-for-20 (35.0%) from behind the arc, and 15-for-21 (71.4%) from the free-throw line.
