The men's basketball team opened the game on a 16-3 run to cruise to a 77-62 victory over York College on Wednesday night at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds have reached double digit wins at 10-4 and 4-1 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Cardinals drop to 6-10 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
Senior
Doug Levy registered his team-leading eighth double-double of the year with 16 points and a game-high 13 boards. Junior
Kyle LaGuardia also picked up a double-double, his fourth of the season, with 12 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and a pair of steals. Senior
Jayson Brower fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 16 points, nine boards, and six assists.
Junior
Romello Ford returned to the lineup and dished out six assists to go along with a game-high four steals. Sophomore
Angel Rivera added seven points and freshman
Dan Kenny recorded a career-high four blocks. Freshman
Garrison Watkins had eight points off the bench.
The Bloodhounds jumped out to a 16-3 lead in the first five minutes. Minutes later, Watkins drained a three to put John Jay ahead by 19. With five minutes left in the period, Levy drained a three-pointer as the Bloodhounds led 44-24 through twenty minutes.
The first 10 minutes of the second went back-and-forth as John Jay held a 62-41 advantage. The Cardinals made a late run but John Jay held on for the conference victory.
John Jay went 27-for-62 (43.5%) from the floor, 14-for-31 (45.2%) from behind the arc, and 9-for-12 (75.0%) from the free-throw line.
