The women's basketball team suffered a tough 69-65 loss to Rutgers-Newark on Monday night in Newark, NJ. The Bloodhounds fall to 6-8 on the season. The Scarlet Raiders improve to 2-12.

Nyasha Howard and sophomore
Katie Healy registered double-doubles for John Jay. Howard finished with 18 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals. Healy recorded 16 points, 11 boards, and a team-high four steals.

All'aha Albright poured in a game-high 22 points to go along with five rebounds. Freshman
Jada Rencher grabbed nine boards and sophomore
Lily Rakitzis dished out a team-high four assists.
Leading 8-4 in the first, the hosts broke open the quarter on a 14-0 run to go up by 18. The Bloodhounds cut the deficit to 22-7 at the end of the period as Healy made a layup and Albright a free-throw. Howard opened the second with a jumper and Albright followed with a three-pointer. The rest of the period went back-and-forth as John Jay trailed 38-28 heading into halftime.
The Bloodhounds stormed back in the third starting on an 11-0 run to take their first lead of the contest. With John Jay holding a one-point advantage, Rutgers-Newark regained the lead after scoring five straight. The hosts ended the third on a 5-0 run to lead 50-42.
John Jay cut the lead to 63-55 after Albright sank a three in the final period. Down by nine with 1:29 left in regulation, Rencher hit two free-throws and Howard made a jumper. The Bloodhounds' late comeback would run out of time as the Scarlet Raiders held on for the non-conference win.
John Jay finished 24-for-67 (35.8%) from the field, 4-for-18 (22.2%) from behind the arc, and 13-for-31 (41.9%) from the free throw line.
