In the final John Jay vs. Staten Island matchup between the two schools, the Bloodhounds took down the Dolphins, 66-59, on Saturday afternoon in Staten Island, NY. John Jay concludes the rivalry winning the final four regular season games. The Bloodhounds improve to 13-5 on the season while CSI drops to 6-12.
Senior
Jayson Brower led the offense with his second straight double-double and seventh of the season with a game-high 20 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, and three assists. Senior
Doug Levy picked up his sixth straight double-double and team-leading 13th of the year with 10 points and 10 boards.
Sophomore
Angel Rivera finished wih 12 points, four steals, and three rebounds. Junior
Romello Ford tallied eight points and a pair of steals and junior
Kyle LaGuardia added nine rebounds and four steals.
The Bloodhounds erased a six-point deficit in the first half to even the score at 22 apiece with 8:00 remaining. With just over three minutes remaining, John Jay held a nine-point advantage but CSI fought back to trail 32-30 through the first twenty minutes.
The first six minutes of the second period went back-and-forth as the score was tied 38-38. John Jay broke open the game on an 11-0 run with nine minutes to go. The hosts trimmed the deficit to five but the Bloodhounds quickly increased the lead back to 10 and would go on to cruise for the victory.
John Jay finished 21-for-62 (33.9%) from the floor, 7-for-24 (29.2%) from behind the arc, and 17-for-22 (77.3%) from the free-throw line.
The Bloodhounds return home to take on Lehman College on Tuesday, January 28, for a conference tilt at 8:00 pm at the Doghouse.
