Men's Basketball's Hot Three-Point Shooting Difference in 87-79 Win Against Lehman; Four Players Finish in Double Figures

The men's basketball team used 16 three-pointers to propel them past Lehman College, 87-79, on Tuesday night at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds improve to 14-5 on the year and 7-1 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Lightning drop to 11-8 and 6-3 in the conference. 

Freshman Corey Jones Jr. came off the bench to record a career-high 18 points, finishing 6-of-8 from behind the arc, to go along with four rebounds. Senior Doug Levy notched a team-high 19 points, team-high seven boards, three assists, and a game-high two blocks. Sophomore Angel Rivera tallied 13 points and a game-high four steals. 

Senior Jayson Brower contributed 12 points and four rebounds. Junior Kyle LaGuardia added nine points, five rebounds, and a pair of steals. Junior Romello Ford dished out a team-high six assists to go along with seven points and three steals. 

Lehman held an early 5-4 lead but John Jay followed on a 7-0 run, capped off by a three-pointer by Brower to lead 11-5. Up by one with 8:01 left in the opening half, Rivera sparked the offense recording back-to-back three-pointers. Levy and Jones Jr. followed to also sink three's to ignite a 13-0 run.

With 2:49 left to go, LaGuardia made a layup to put the Bloodhounds ahead 49-33. John Jay went into the half holding a 59-41 advantage. The Bloodhounds made 13 three-pointers through the first twenty minutes.

Three minutes into the second, Jones Jr. tallied another three to increase the lead to 23. With 8:29 remaining in regulation, the Lightning chipped at the deficit to trail 72-59. Up by 12, Jones Jr. continued his three-point shooting prowess to increase the advantage back up to 15. Lehman made a late run but the Bloodhounds held on to start the season winning seven of its first eight conference games. 

John Jay went 30-for-59 (50.8%) from the field, an impressive 16-for-37 (43.2%) from behind the arc, and 11-for-15 (73.3%) from the free-throw line.
