The men's volleyball team cruised to a 3-1 victory (25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 25-15) on Thursday night in Purchase, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 1-7 on the season. The Panthers drop to 1-7 overall.
Freshman
Nathan Wan led all John Jay hitters tying a career-high with 11 kills to go along with seven digs and three total blocks. Sophomore
Alejandro Gallardo fell two digs shy of a double-double with 10 kills and a team-high eight digs. Freshman
Jack Nugent tallied a career-high six kills, a career-high and match-high six total blocks, and a team-high two service aces.
Junior
Dylan Senkiw dished out a game-high 31 assists. Senior
Godwin Sequeira added seven digs and sophomore
Nikita Kuznetsov registered a season-high five kills. Sophomore
Keydrick Segur contributed four total blocks and three kills.
With the first set at 12 apiece, John Jay broke open the period on a 7-2 run and would eventually take the opening set. Trailing 9-8 in the second, the Bloodhounds responded on a 7-1 run to take a 2-0 advantage.
The third set went back-and-forth but the Panthers went on a 5-0 run late in the period to cut the deficit to 2-1. Both teams exchanged points in the fourth as John Jay trailed 10-9. The Bloodhounds followed to go on a 9-1 run to clinch the match and give them their first victory of 2020.
John Jay totaled 41 kills, 36 assists, 22 total blocks, four service aces, and 37 digs.
The Bloodhounds host Misericordia University and Nichols College on Saturday, February 8, at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, respectively.
