NEW YORK, NY -- Despite the return of fans to the Doghouse for the first time since 2019, the women's volleyball team lost a hard-fought match against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs, 3-1 (25-16, 25, 18, 21-25, 25-22), on Tuesday evening. John Jay falls to 7-10 (3-2 CUNYAC) on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 11-8 (4-1 CUNYAC) on the year.
After a rocky first two sets, the Bloodhounds bounced back with a much more competitive third set. The Bulldogs had a 21-19 advantage and were nearing a sweep, but John Jay responded with six straight points (four from freshman
Johnelle Pierre) to come from behind and win set three, 25-21. The Bloodhounds carried that momentum into the fourth set, and trailed by just one, 23-22, late into the set after a kill from freshman
Faith Harer. However, back to back kills for Brooklyn secured a 3-1 Bulldog victory.
Freshman
Reilly Catan had a team-high 11 kills for John Jay, and also added 15 digs for her first career-double-double. Meanwhile, Harer had nine kills in the match with 12 digs, Pierre added eight kills, and freshman
Rylea Sandel chipped in six kills. Freshman
Meghan Smith tallied the second double-double of her career with 31 assists and 14 digs. Freshman
Kristin Gretener totaled a match-high 19 digs.
The Bloodhounds will participate in the King's Tri-Match this weekend, with non-conference games scheduled against King's College and William Paterson on Saturday, October 23rd. First serve against William Paterson is set for 1 p.m. and the match against King's College will follow the conclusion of the first match.
