THROGGS NECK, NY -- The men's basketball team lost a close battle with Maritime College, 78-74, on Wednesday night. The Bloodhounds fall to 1-4 on the year while the Privateers improve to 1-1 on the season.
John Jay only trailed by three at halftime, and scored 44 points in the second half in attempt to comeback and take the lead. Unfortunately, the Privateers offense was able to keep pace with the Bloodhounds, as they scored 45 points in the period, and Maritime held on to win the contest by four points.
Junior
Angel Rivera tallied his first career-double-double in the game, leading the Bloodhounds with 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while swatting three shots. Freshman
Bleron Lata chipped in 13 points and added five rebounds. Sophomore
Garrison Watkins and freshman
Frankie Barbato were also in double-figures, with 11 and 10 points, respectively.Â
John Jay's next game will be Homecoming on Tuesday, November 23 at the Doghouse. The men's game is scheduled to tip-off at 8 p.m. which follows the women's game which is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
