NEW YORK, NY -- The men's basketball team celebrated Homecoming but dropped a tightly contested contest to the Manhattanville College Valiants, 66-54, on Tuesday night at the Doghouse. John Jay falls to 1-5 on the season while Manhattanville improves to 3-2 on the year.
The game was closer than the final score would indicate, as the Bloodhounds held a one-point edge at halftime. With just about seven minutes to go in the game, the Valiants led 49-47 after a three-pointer from sophomore
Corey Jones Jr. went down. However, from that point Manhattanville went on an extended 14-5 run, spanning six minutes, to take a 63-52 lead with just over a minute play. The Valiants would then hold on to earn a 12-point victory.
Sophomore
Garrison Watkins notched his first career double-double in the game, totaling 12 points and 11 rebounds. Junior
Angel Rivera added a team-high 14 points to go with two assists and two rebounds. Jones Jr. knocked down three threes in the game for nine total points.
The Bloodhounds return to the court on Friday, December 3 for their CUNYAC opener on the road against CCNY. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
