Faith Harer & Erika Hoti Power Women's Volleyball Past Sarah Lawrence in Home Opener

-- The women's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, 25-19) victory over Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday night in the home opener at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds get back to .500 at 2-2 while the Gryphons drop to 1-5. 

Freshman Faith Harer powered the offense with her first double-double of her collegiate career with a team-high 13 kills, team-high 14 digs, and three service aces. Freshman Erika Hoti had a career night with 11 kills and three digs. Freshman Meghan Smith dished out a season-high and match-high 37 assists to go along with six digs. Freshmen Taylor Hunt and Amanda Marte combined for 14 digs, seven service aces, and four kills. 

The visitors registered seven of the first eight points of the match. The Bloodhounds cut the deficit to 10-7 but the Gryphons responded on a 4-0 run. John Jay then followed to take 18 of the next 23 points to win the first set, 25-19. The start of the second set went back-and-forth. Down 14-8, Sarah Lawrence went on a 6-1 run to trail by one. The guests then had a 24-23 lead but the Bloodhounds closed out recording four of the final five points to lead 2-0. 

John Jay stormed out to an early 8-1 lead in the third. Trailing 14-5, the Gryphons put together six straight points. The Bloodhounds broke open the set on a 6-1 run to complete the sweep. 

John Jay totaled 43 kills, 43 assists, 18 service aces, and 49 digs. 

The Bloodhounds travel to Wayne, NJ on Saturday, September 18, for a tri-match. John Jay faces Bard at 1:00 pm followed by the hosts William Paterson at 3:00 pm.
