Women's Volleyball Drops a Pair of Matches in New Jersey

WAYNE, NJ -- The women's volleyball team lost two non-conference matches on Saturday afternoon. The Bloodhounds fell to Bard College, 3-2 (25-27, 20-25, 25-14, 25-20, 15-3), and then lost to William Paterson, 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-18). John Jay is now 2-4 on the season. 

John Jay took the first two sets of the match against Bard to take a 2-0 lead. The Raptors then responded with two sets to force a fifth and deciding set. Bard recorded 11 of the first 13 points in the fifth to cruise to a 15-3 win. 

Freshman Faith Harer fell one kill shy of a double-double with a team-high nine kills and 14 digs. Freshman Kristin Gretener led the defense with a career-high and match-high 26 digs to go along with a pair of service aces. Freshman Meghan Smith fell two digs shy of a double-double with a team-high 30 assists and eight digs. Freshman Johnelle Pierre finished with seven kills and freshman Reilly Catan had five kills, nine digs, and two aces. Freshman Erika Hoti added five kills and five digs. 

In the match against the host William Paterson, Catan led the way with a team-high eight kills and 14 digs. Freshman Taylor Hunt tallied a team-high 15 digs and a pair of service aces. Smith dished out a team-high 21 assists to go along with nine digs. Harer and Pierre registered five kills apiece. Gretener picked up a match-high five service aces. 

On the day, John Jay totaled 65 kills, 59 assists, 17 service aces, five total blocks, and 132 digs. 

The Bloodhounds return to the Doghouse to open conference play on Tuesday, September 21, against Lehman College at 6:00 pm. The match will be live streamed for free at www.johnjayathletics.com/watch
