NEW YORK, NY -- The women's volleyball team earned its fourth victory of the season on Thursday evening, defeating St. Joseph's College Brooklyn in four sets (24-26, 25-23, 25-12, 26-24). With the win, John Jay improves its record to 4-7 on the season, while the Bears fall to 3-3 on the year.
After a back-and-forth first set in which St. Joseph's College Brooklyn was able to prevail, 26-24, the Bloodhounds were able to turn the match around in a major way. John Jay stormed out to a 24-16 lead in the second set and, despite a quick 7-0 Bear run, was able to even up the match at one set apiece. The Bloodhounds coasted to a 25-12 win in set three, and edged out a 26-24 victory in set four to secure the 3-1 match win.
Freshman
Reilly Catan had a dominant performance, tallying a career-high 17 kills to lead the Bloodhounds. Freshman
Faith Harer also accumulated a career-high 14 kills, while collecting her second career double-double with 15 digs. Freshman
Erika Hoti also had double-figure kills, totaling 10. Freshman
Taylor Hunt totaled a career-high 22 digs in the match, and freshman
Meghan Smith collected a career-high 51 assists.
As a team, John Jay outhit the Bears .191-.093. The Bloodhounds combined for 57 kills while limiting the SJC Brooklyn to just 27.
John Jay closes out its brief two-match homestand and will be looking to start a win streak on Wednesday, October 6 against the City College of New York. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Doghouse.
