NEW YORK, NY -- The men's basketball team suffered a tough loss to Medgar Evers College on Wednesday night at the Doghouse, as the Cougars drilled a go-ahead three-pointer in the final seconds to earn a 67-65 victory. The Bloodhounds fall to 4-9 (2-2 CUNYAC) on the season, while Medgar Evers improves to 4-10 (1-4 CUNYAC) on the year.
The Cougars led by six after the conclusion of the first half, but the Bloodhounds were never out of it. At the 13:06 mark of the second half, junior
Angel Rivera connected on a pull-up jumper from the baseline, capping an 8-1 Bloodhound run, to give John Jay its first lead of the second period. The two teams traded runs which eventually led to a deadlock tie at 64-64 with 20 seconds left in the game, and that was when sophomore
Dan Kenny drew a foul and knocked down a free throw to give John Jay the lead. However, the Cougars knocked down a three on the ensuing possession, and that would be enough to give them the win.
Freshman
Jordan Evelyn had the best game of his young career for John Jay, scoring a career-high 10 points on 4-7 shooting, hitting a career-high two three pointers, and grabbing a career-high four rebounds. Rivera notched a game-high 21 points along with four rebounds and two assists. Freshman
Isaac Holmes was the other Bloodhound in double-figures with 13 points and was the team's leading rebounder with seven. Kenny collected nine points and six rebounds.
Next up, the Bloodhounds will hit the road again as they travel to take on Baruch College on Saturday, January 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
