Women's Volleyball Earns Third Straight Victory with Sweep of CUNYAC Foe York College

NEW YORK, NY - The John Jay women's volleyball team earned its third straight win on Thursday evening, sweeping (25-6, 25-15, 25-16) the York College Cardinals at the Doghouse in front of the home crowd. The Bloodhounds improve to 10-8 (4-1 CUNYAC) on the season, while York falls to 0-14 (0-5 CUNYAC) on the year.

It was a dominant first set for John Jay, who quickly took a 10-5 lead early. Then, a service ace from sophomore Reilly Catan helped spark an 8-0 run which put the Bloodhounds firmly in control. After one John Jay attack error, they would then close the set on another huge run, this time 7-0, which was capped by a service ace by sophomore Paige Sadowttz to put the finishing touches on set one.

The Bloodhounds once again dominated early in set two, taking a 6-1 advantage thanks to a kill from sophomore Jordyn Prince. The Cardinals eventually cut their deficit to just five, but John Jay was able to fend off the comeback attempt, and secure a 25-15 victory thanks to five kills from sophomore Aniko Ouwendijk in the set. The dominance would continue into set three, and John Jay would close out the match in three sets.

Ouwendijk smacked a season-high six kills to tie for the team lead with sophomore Faith Harer who also tallied six kills. Sadowitz collected a career-high six service aces in the win, to go with five kills for 11 points. Sophomore Jordyn Prince tallied the first two kills of her career, along with a career-high three digs. Sophomore Meghan Smith had a match-high 15 assists.

The Bloodhounds will look to continue their winning streak and make it four in a row tomorrow when they travel to take on Purchase College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
