BROOKLYN, NY - The John Jay women's volleyball team suffered a sweep (25-17, 25-19, 25-20) at the hands of Brooklyn College on Tuesday evening in CUNYAC action. John Jay falls to 11-9 (4-2 CUNYAC) on the year, while the Bulldogs improve to 13-11 (5-1 CUNYAC) on the season.
Sophomore
Taylor Hunt began the match with two service aces, as the Bloodhounds took an early 3-0 lead in set one. However, a 9-0 Brooklyn run towards the middle of the set put the Bulldogs in prime position to win the set, which they went on to do.
Brooklyn would carry that momentum into set two, in which they scored eight of the first 10 points. Two kills from sophomore
Reilly Catan would help spark a mini 5-1 Bloodhound run, but it wouldn't be enough to fight back into the set after Brooklyn answered with a 7-0 run of its own. Despite a kill from sophomore
Faith Harer which would cut the deficit to just five late, Brooklyn held on to go up 2-0 in the match.
Harer and Catan had three kills each in the third set, but it wouldn't be enough for John Jay to get on the scoreboard. The Bulldogs went on to win the set 25-20, and the match, 3-0.
Sophomore
Rylea Sandel, Harer, and Catan had six kills each in the match to lead the Bloodhounds. Sophomore
Meghan Smith fell one dig short of a double-double, totaling nine to go with 14 assists in the match. Hunt had three service aces and five digs.
John Jay's next match will be on Thursday, October 20 when the Bloodhounds will hit the road to take on York College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
