Camden, NJ - The John Jay women's volleyball team fell to the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-19) on Thursday evening.
With the setback, the Bloodhounds fall to 13-12 overall while Rutgers-Camden moves to .500 on the season, upping their overall record to 14-14.
Rylea Sandel led the visitors on the evening with five kills and added four digs and an ace.
Meghan Smith tallied 14 assists and tied for the team-lead with
Reilly Catan with five digs.
The Scarlet Raptors got a match-high 12 kills, 3 aces, 2 digs from Isabella Choice. Dyamond Free notched 10 digs while Brinn Hassan served up 31 assists for Rutgers-Camden.
In the first set, the Scarlet Raptors raced out to 4-0 lead before the Bloodhounds rallied back in the set, scored the three points, thanks to a attack error by Free.
Rutgers-Camden went on a 10-4 run, after getting three kills by Free while Kaitlyn Parrish added two in building a 16-9 advantage.
The two teams traded points but it would be a kill by Parrish that secured the first set for the Scarlet Raptors.
A 10-4 run by the home team opened the second set after Choice was able to record the ace to cap the run. John Jay sparked a 7-4 run of their own, capped by a kill by
Paige Sadowitz which brought the Bloodhounds to within four, 15-11.
John Jay again got the match to within five, 22-17, after a servicer error by Free, but Rutgers-Camden was able to rebound and go ahead 2-0 after a block by Parrish and Hasan.
In the third set, the Bloodhounds jumped out to an early 5-2 lead thanks to an attack error by Free.
The two teams were deadlocked at 14-14 following a kill by Choice before the Scarlet Raptors closed out the match scoring 11 of the final 16 points to secure the win.
John Jay closes out the 2022 regular season on the road this Saturday, October 29 at noon as the Bloodhounds travel to Manhattanville.
