Women's Volleyball Back in the Win Column with Dominant Sweep over Medgar Evers on Tuesday Night at the Doghouse

NEW YORK, NY- The John Jay women's volleyball team got back on track on Tuesday night with a dominant sweep (25-6, 25-7, 25-17) of Medgar Evers at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds snapped their losing skid and move back over .500 (7-6) on the year and remain undefeated (2-0) in CUNYAC play. Meanwhile, the Cougars fall to 1--11 (0-4 CUNYAC) on the season.

John Jay opened the first set on a 9-0 scoring run, sparked by a kill from sophomore Rylea Sandel to open the match and capped by a kill from sophomore Amanda Marte, which set the tone for the rest of the night

The Bloodhound defense was on point the entire match, led by sophomore Reilly Catan who had eight digs, allowing just a combined 13 total points through the first two sets.

The Cougars could not handle the impressive serving from the Bloodhounds in the match, falling victim to 21 service aces. Catan, Marte, and freshman Saeryn O'Bleness each had four of them.

After John Jay went up 2-0 in the match, the Cougars attempted a late comeback attempt to try and steal the third set. However, with the score 22-17 in favor of the Bloodhounds, John Jay went on a 3-0 run to close out the match capped off by a kill from senior Catharine Fleming to secure the victory.

Sandel had a match-high eight kills to lead the Bloodhounds, while sophomore Johnelle Pierre chipped in seven. O'Bleness had a career-high 15 assists, while sophomore Meghan Smith had eight.

The Bloodhounds will look to make it two in a row when they host St. Joseph's - Long Island on Thursday, October 6. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Doghouse.
