Men's Basketball Drops Second Game of Crosstown Challenge to Lycoming College

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The John Jay men's basketball team dropped the second game of the Crosstown Challenge to Lycoming College, 81-72, on Saturday afternoon. The Bloodhounds fall to 0-4 on the season, while the Warriors improve to 2-0 on the year.

Sophomore Isaac Holmes had a game-high 18 points with 7 rebounds. Sophomore Bleron Lata had his best game of the season, tallying 15 points and three rebounds with two three-pointers. Sophomore Corey Jones Jr. chipped in 13 points with two rebounds and two assists. Freshman Jamir Stewart had his best game as a Bloodhound, notching 12 points on 9-10 from the charity stripe.

"Tonight we progressed forward as a program," Head Coach Ryan Hyland said. "While there are no moral victories, we can acknowledge that was our best overall effort of this short season so far. I'm proud of our resiliency, and encouraged for the future.

Our schedule is set up to test and prepare us, and we learned a lot about our guys today vs an NCAA Tournament caliber Lycoming team. Now we need to turn the page and look forward to another great test in West Conn on Wednesday."

After falling behind by 13 points midway through the first half, John Jay never let the game fall out of reach. After trailing by just nine at halftime, the Bloodhounds managed to keep the score within single digits throughout the majority of the second half. A jumper from junior Garrison Watkins at the 2:19 mark cut the deficit to three points, but that would be as close as the Bloodhounds would get as the Warriors held on for the win.

As Hyland mentioned, there were a lot of positives for the Bloodhounds. They outshot Lycoming from deep, holding the Warriors to just 17.9% shooting from three point land. John Jay's defense also forced 20 turnovers, scoring 19 points off those turnovers, while the Bloodhounds only turned the ball over 13 times themselves.

John Jay will be back at it on Wednesday, November 16 when Western Connecticut State will make the trip to the Doghouse. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
