Men's Hoops Falls At Home To Western Connecticut On Wednesday Evening

New York, NY – The John Jay men's basketball team was defeated by the WestConn Wolves, 79-53, at the Doghouse on Wednesday evening.

The Bloodhounds were paced by Isaac Holmes, who netted 14 points on an efficient 4 of 8 shooting performance from the field, which included connecting on 4 of 5 from the free throw line in his 18 minutes of action. Mikhail Leston added nine points while pulling down a team-high six caroms and also a team-best three helpers in his 24 minutes of play.

The Wolves were led by Kendall Robinson and Jaheim Young, each pouring in a game-high 15 points on a combined 11 of 21 shooting from the floor and 4 of 9 marksmanship from three-point range. The Bloodhounds defense did force Robinson to commit six turnovers in the contest in his 21 minutes of play.

John Jay opened the scoring on the evening as Holmes was able to spot up for the mid-range jumper off the feed from Leston to give the Bloodhounds the early 2-0 lead. The Wolves sparked a 21-4 run over a six and half minute span in building a 21-6 lead as the visitors connected on 8 of 14 from the field and 4 of 6 from long range while holding the Bloodhounds to just two made field goals in seven chances.

For the final 12 minutes of the first half, the two teams went back and forth, with Western Connecticut outscoring John Jay, 19-16, in taking a 40-24 lead into the break.

The visitors opened the second half with five straight points before Omar Calderon was able to follow his missed shot and convert the jumper in the paint while drawing contact in finishing the tradition three-point at the free-throw line.

West Connecticut took its largest lead of the contest, 72-44, with 4:27 remaining in the game, thanks in large part to outscoring John Jay, 22-13, over a near ten-minute spurt. Jamir Stewart's three-pointer put a stop to the run, as the Bloodhounds close out the game scoring nine of the final 16 points in the stanza.

John Jay was able to turn 18 Wolves turnovers into 19 points. The visitors held a 56-30 edge on the boards, highlighted by a 25-9 advantage on the offensive glass.
