Bobbi Green and
Kamryn Hammond did tally double doubles, with the former collecting 16 points and 11 rebounds while the latter totaled 13 points and 11 rebounds. Ashley Zeolla notched a season-high 18 points. Junior
Tiffany Bogle had her highest point total as a Bloodhound with six.
"Another great team win!" said John Jay women's basketball head coach,
Lynda Day. "Little by little we are starting to build more chemistry and trust with each other. We took care of the ball a bit better than in our first game as well. It was a great offensive effort by Ayanna, who consistently knocked down her jumper while we also got an amazing effort off the bench by
Tiffany Bogle."
Green started the scoring for the second consecutive game, driving to the basket for a layup within a minute after tip-off. However, the Scarlett Raptors would battle to take a 17-12 lead late in the first quarter after a pair of jumpers from Jalissa Pitts. The Bloodhounds would respond with a quick 6-0 run to close the quarter capped by a jumper from sophomore
Chayanne Kelly with 15 second remaining to take the lead.
John Jay would use a massive second quarter to gain a nine-point edge that the Bloodhounds would hold throughout the rest of the game. They outscored the Scarlett Raptors, 27-19, in the period thanks to six points each from Hammond and Zeolla, as the team shot 56% in the quarter. John Jay took a 45-36 lead into the break.
The Bloodhounds and Scarlett Raptors were evenly matched in the second half, with John Jay only having a one-point edge in the last 20 minutes. With Rutgers-Camden furiously attempting a comeback in the fourth quarter, the John Jay defense held strong holding the Scarlett Raptors to 0% from behind the arc in the period. The Bloodhounds would ice the game at the free throw line, going 9-12 in the fourth the seal the victory.
John Jay will look to make it three in a row to open the year on Tuesday, November 15 when the Bloodhounds will travel to take on William Patterson University in their first road game of the year. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
