WAYNE, NJ - The John Jay women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday evening, falling to William Patterson, 66-48, in a non-conference matchup. The Bloodhounds drop to 2-1 on the season, while the Pioneers improve to 2-1 on the year.
Senior
Katie Healy returned to the court after a stellar, championship-winning season with women's soccer, and dropped eight points with seven rebounds in her season debut. Sophomore
Tiffany Bogle led the Bloodhounds with 10 points, a new career-high, to go with five rebounds. Sophomore
Ashley Zeolla grabbed nine rebounds and scored seven points. Sophomore
Ayanna Edwards also chipped in seven points.
The Bloodhounds hung with the Pioneers in the first quarter, as junior
Kamryn Hammond scored a quick five points. John Jay held the lead until the last few seconds, when a layup from William Patterson's Allison McBride gave the Pioneers a 14-13 lead. The Pioneers would extend that lead to 29-23 at halftime, and would not look back as the second half began. William Patterson outscored the Bloodhounds, 37-25, in the second half to pull away and secure the win.
Despite the loss, John Jay's three point defense was stout, holding the Pioneers to just 21.4% from beyond the arc. The Bloodhounds were also great on the offensive glass, grabbing 14 offensive rebounds to William Patterson's 12.
John Jay will be back at it on Thursday, November 17 when the Bloodhounds will host Western Connecticut State. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Doghouse.
