Women's Basketball Remains Undefeated At Home; Tops Western Connecticut, 59-46, On Thursday Evening

New York, NY - The John Jay women's basketball team remained perfect at The Doghouse, defeating the Western Connecticut Wolves, 59-46, on Thursday evening.
 
With the win, the Bloodhounds improve to 3-1 on the season while the Wolves drop their first contest of the season (0-1). 
 

 
Three John Jay players reached double-figures on the evening, led by senior guard Bobbi Green, who netted a season and game-high 21 points on 9 of 17 shooting from the floor in 31 minutes of action. The Queens, NY native filled up the stat sheet, adding five rebounds, three steals, one assist, and one block on the night. 
 
Chayanne Kelly scored a career-high 12 points while playing 31 minutes off the bench. She dished out a team-high seven helpers (career-best) while chipping in on the boards, securing four caroms and swiping two steals. 
 
Katie Healy was the third Bloodhound to reach double-digits, as the Merrick, NY native nearly recorded a triple-double, finishing with 10 points, and 15 rebounds (11 of which on the defensive end) while adding five steals and dishing out two helpers in 38 minutes of action. 
 
Kamryn Hammond added eight points and nine rebounds in her 30 minutes of play while Tiffany Bogle contributed six points and four rebounds in a pivotal 17 minutes of play. 
 
"Tonight, was one of our better defensive games," commented head coach Lynda Day. "As a group, our efforts on the glass was exactly what we needed. Chayanne (Kelly) gave us big minutes off the bench as her intensity matched that our home crowd that came out and supported us this evening." 
 
Katelyn Fanning led the visitors with 18 points on 7 of 15 shooting from the field, which included 4 of 6 from the free-throw line in her 30 minutes of play. She, along with Rosaleen Regan, pulled down a team-leading six rebounds in the contest. 
 
Both teams struggled in the early portion of the contest. Green was the catalyst for the Bloodhounds, tying the contest at 6-6 after hitting a pair from the free-throw line. 
 
WestConn doubled up the lead to 16-8 on the strength of a 10-2 run after limiting the Bloodhounds to just one made field goal over the four minutes. 
 
In the second quarter, it would be John Jay that took control of the tempo, as Hammond opened the frame with a three-point off the feed from Tiffany Bogle, cutting the deficit to five, 16-11. 
 
The Bloodhounds scored 12 of the next 18 points over seven minutes to take their first lead of the contest, 23-22, as Chayanne Kelly was able to crossover her defender on her way to the basket before Green added a layup that made it 25-22 at the 1:58 mark. 
 
Regan hit one of two from the line for the Wolves, before Kelly banked in a layup, sending John Jay into the locker room with a 27-23 lead. 
 
 
John Jay seized the momentum when play resumed for the second half, as the Bloodhounds sparked a 12-2 run over the first four minutes of the third quarter in racing out to a 14-point lead, 39-25, as Hammond was able to bank in the layup off the feed from Kelly. 
 
Western Connecticut scored eight of the next nine points to trim the deficit back to single digits, 40-33, after Fanning was able to muscle in two after getting the pass from Ashley Rilley with 1:47 left to go in the quarter. 
 
The Wolves continued to chip away at the John Jay lead to start the fourth quarter, as Julia Misner hit a pair from the charity stripe, bringing the Bloodhounds' advantage to just six, 46-40, with 7:52 remaining in regulation. 
 
An 11-4 run by the home team, capped by Green completing the traditional three-point play from the line increased John Jay's lead to 13, 57-55, with 4:13 left to play. 
 
 
Bogle added a jumper from the right elbow giving Kelly her seventh assist in the ballgame which concluded the scoring for the Bloodhounds as John Jay remains undefeated at The Doghouse this season. 
 
The Bloodhounds held the Wolves to just 29.0 percent shooting from the field (18-62) while they converted on nearly 40.0 percent from the floor (25-65). Both teams struggled from long range, with the Bloodhounds holding the visitors to just 17.6 percent from deep (3-17). Hammond was the lone John Jay play to hit from the outside in the contest. 

The Bloodhounds held a 49-38 advantage on the boards, while outmuscling the Wolves 36-28 on the defensive glass. Of John Jay's 59 points tonight, 23 were scored in the paint while turning 21 WestConn turnovers into 23 points as well. 

John Jay will look for their fourth straight win at home on Tuesday, November 22 as the Bloodhounds welcome St. Joseph's University - Long Island to the Doghouse for Homecoming. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
