Morristown, NJ - Sophomore Isaac Holmes led four John Jay men's basketball players in double-figures pouring in a career-high 29 points but it wasn't enough as the Bloodhounds were edged on the road by Saint Elizabeth, 90-87, on Wednesday evening.

This was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Holmes scored 22 of his 29 points in the opening half, converting on 9 of 14 from the field while hitting on 4 of 5 from three-point range over the first 20 minutes of the contest. He finished the game shooting 11 of 21 from the floor and 5 of 8 in 39 minutes of action. Holmes also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Jayson Delgado was next with 18 points on 8 of 14 shooting. Corey Jones Jr. and Garrison Watkins each netted 13 points on a combined 7 of 16 shooting from the field while both combing to go 11 of 14 from the free-throw line. Jones Jr. hit on 8 of 9 from the charity stripe in his 30 minutes of play.

Three Eagles reached double-figures, as Pierre Harden and Syhid Daniels each eclipsed the 20-point plateau, with Harden finishing with a team-high 28 points on 10 of 18 shooting from the field. He also dished out six assists in his 32 minutes.

Daniels chipped in 20 points on 6 of 9 shooting. D'Angelo Blackmond registered a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, ten coming on the defensive glass.

Saint Elizabeth opened the contest scoring the first five points before Jones Jr. completed the four-point play.

Both teams turned up the intensity on the offensive end, with the Bloodhounds outscoring the Eagles, 15-10, over a 4:44 span in taking a 19-15 lead at the 11:56 mark after Holmes was able to connect on his second straight three-pointer.

Of the next 25 points scored, John Jay netted 13 of those in building a five-point lead, 32-27, after Jamir Stewart was able to hit from the outside.

The offense continued to be on display, but it was Saint Elizabeth that entered the break with the advantage, as they outscored the Bloodhounds, 21-18, down the stretch but John Jay held a 50-48 halftime. SEU's Jonathan Ramos was able to bank in a layup just before time expired.

The Bloodhounds shot close to 50.0 percent in the opening 20 minutes of play (48.6) while the Eagles converted nearly 60.0 percent of their attempts from the field (59.4).

Holmes kicked off the second half scoring for the visitors, as they jumped out to a four-point advantage, 55-51, following another trifecta.

The Eagles came soaring back in the contest, sparking a 17-6 run over a five-minute span, in taking a 68-61 lead after Harden slammed home his 25th point of the night.

During the run, SEU hit on 5 of their eight attempts while netting all three triple attempts. The Eagles defense stifled John Jay's offense, holding the visitors to just one made basket in nine attempts despite the Bloodhounds hitting on 4 of 5 from the line.

Similar to their first half performances, both teams traded baskets over the next ten minutes, as John Jay trailed by just two, 86-84, following a Mikhail Leston layup with 1:17 showing on the game clock.

John Jay went for the steal but fouled Daniels, who hit on both attempts from the line, increasing the SEU lead to 88-84 with now under a minute left in regulation.

Watkins kept John Jay in the ballgame, hitting on one of two from the line but was able to get the score to within one, 88-87, thanks to a layup with just 26 seconds left to play.

On the ensuing Eagles possession, Blackmond turned the ball over as Watkins deflected the pass. Jones Jr. missed fired on a triple before the Bloodhounds called for time.

On what turned out to be their final possession of the night, Watkins couldn't hang on to the ball as Daniels wrestled it away from him and finish with a layup as the Eagles held on for a three-point home win.

John Jay was outrebounded by nine, 40-31, despite their efficient shooting performance on the night (44.1 percent from the field; 42.1 percent from three-point range and 76.0 percent from the free-throw line).

The Bloodhounds forced 25 Eagles turnovers and scored 32 points off those mishaps.

Both teams netted 42 points from inside the paint while SEU held a slim 4-2 edge in second chance opportunities.

Following the holiday break, John Jay will travel to Patchogue, NY to take on the St. Joseph's - Long Island Golden Eagles on December 28.

Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
