Men's Basketball Drops Final Non-Conference Contest Of 2022 At St. Joseph's (LI)

Patchogue, NY - The John Jay men's basketball dropped its final non-conference game of the season, falling to the St. Joseph's University (LI) Golden Eagles, 84-57, on Wednesday afternoon. 
 
Three Bloodhounds finished in double-figures, led by Jayson Delgado, who finished with a team-leading 16 points. 
 
Jordan Evelyn registered a career-high 14 points, ten of which coming from the free-throw line (10 of 12). 
 
Isaac Holmes was the third Bloodhound to score in double-figures as he chipped in 12 points. 
 
St. Joseph's also had three players score in double-digits led by Xavier Allen, who scored a game-high 18 points on 7 of 15 shooting from the field while also grabbing a game-best 10 rebounds. 
 
Spencer Malloy netted 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting while corralling six rebounds. Jake Gaudiello added 15 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the floor. 
 
SJCLI opened the contest on an 11-0 run as the Bloodhounds misfired on their first six attempts of the contest. The Golden Eagles hit on a 5 of 6 to start. 
 
Jordan Evelyn hit one of two from the line to put John Jay on the board before Joel-Anthony Alleyne hit the jumper for the first made field goal of the contest for the visitors. 
 
The Golden Eagles staged an 18-0 run to build a 25-point advantage after Liam Sheehy dunked home the chance while drawing the foul. 
 
John Jay trimmed the deficit down to 40-20 with 1:33 left in the stanza, as the Bloodhounds outscored the Golden Eagles, 17-10, capped by a Isaac Holmes mid-range jumper. 
 
When play resumed for the second half, the Golden Eagles opened the frame scoring 11 of the first 16 points of the stanza, capped by a Justin Turner three-pointer that pushed their lead to 56-25. 
 
In the later stages of the contest, the Bloodhounds outscored the Golden Eagles, 7-3, as Evelyn made four straight free-throws before Holmes connected on a three-pointer at the 4:31 mark. 
 
John Jay was held to just 28.4 percent shooting from the field while the Golden Eagles converted on 50.8 percent of their attempts (33 of 65). St. Joseph's hit on 10 of 23 from the outside. 
 
The Bloodhounds were outmuscled on the boards, 48-38, despite holding a slim 12-10 edge on the offensive end. 
 
John Jay forced 21 turnovers and converted 19 points off those mishaps. Both teams recorded 11 steals while St. Joseph's recorded eight blocks. 
 
John Jay opens up 2023 by resuming CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action on Tuesday, January 3 as they will conclude their road trip at Brooklyn College. 
 
Tipoff is slated for 7:15 p.m.
