Isaac Holmes Goes For 26 Points As Men's Basketball Outlasts Brooklyn In Overtime, 76-69

Brooklyn, NY - Outscoring the Bulldogs 13-6 in the overtime period, the John Jay men's basketball team (2-11; 1-1 CUNYAC) defeated the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (2-10; 0-2 CUNYAC) on Tuesday, 76-69. 
 
 
Three Bloodhounds reached double-digits on the evening, led by Isaac Holmes, who netted a game-high 26 points on 8 of 20 shooting while hitting a perfect 8 of 8 from the free-throw line. 
 
Holmes grabbed seven rebounds while also dishing out our four helpers and recording two steals in his 39 minutes of action. 
 
Corey Jones Jr. netted 18 points on an efficient 6 of 13 from the floor while converting on 3 of 8 from three-point range. 
 
Garrison Watkins was the third John Jay player to score in double-digits, as he finished with a season-best 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting. 
 
Jordan Evelyn was an instrumental factor on both sides of the court, netting six points while grabbing a career-high 10 rebounds, nine of which coming on the defensive end in his 28 minutes of play. 
 
Five Bulldogs reached double-figures, led by Elisha Park, who led the Bulldogs with 15 points on 5 of 9 shooting from the floor. 
 
Kayin Olaijde finished with 14 points to go along with eight rebounds. David McFadden matched Olajide with eightt caroms while he and Zuric Harvey each netted 12 points. Serge Thraysbule contributed 10 points in his 32 minutes of action. 
 
John Jay jumped out to an early 7-2 advantage after Watkins muscled his way to the goal. The Bloodhounds jumped out to a double-digit advantage following a left-handed scoop layup from Jayson Delgado, which made it 22-12 at the 10:00 mark. 
 
Brooklyn cut the deficit down to two, 29-27, following a layup from Olajide at the 4:53 mark of the opening half. 
 
Watkins converted a layup off the fast break feed from Joel-Anthony Alleyne, putting John Jay back up by four, 31-27. 
 
The two teams traded buckets over the final minutes of the half, as the visitors held on to a four-point lead, 35-31, heading into the break. 
 
The visitors took their largest lead of the half, 46-39, six minutes into the period, as Jones Jr. drilled home a triple off the feed from Mikhail Leston
 
Keeping up with the tempo of the contest, the two teams traded baskets as despite the Bloodhounds outscoring the Bulldogs, 12-11, Harvey dialed up a three-pointer that knotted the game at 54 with 6:31 showing on the clock. 
 
Jones Jr. scored five of the next seven point for the visitors, which included hitting a pair from the free throw, increasing the score to 61-54 with just 4:33 left. 
 
Brooklyn staged a 9-0 run in taking a two point lead, 63-61, after Olajide converted on his attempts from the free-throw line. 
 
With just nine seconds remaining in regulation, Holmes was fouled and hit both attempts, tying the game at 63, and sending the contest to an extra session. 
 
In the overtime, Brooklyn grabbed the lead, thanks to a three-pointer from McFadden. Holmes hit on a pair from the line that cut the deficit to one. 
 
Jones Jr. continued his torrid stretch, nailing a jumper, as John Jay regained the lead for the time being. 
 
On the ensuing Brooklyn possession, Olajide nailed a right-wing triple, as the Bulldogs went up by two, but was countered by a Leston layup, tying the game at 69 with under two minutes to go. 
 
With 1:20 remaining in the first overtime, Watkins was fouled by Dylan Diaz, as Watkins sank both attempts. 
 
Following a missed jumper by McFadden, Jones Jr. corralled the rebound and outlet it Leston, who served up the assist to Watkins as the Bloodhounds went up by four, 73-69. 
 
The Bloodhounds hit three of their final four free throws to preserve the seven-point victory. 
 
John Jay shot 45.3 from the field for the game while being held to just 22.7 percent from three-point range. Conversely, Brooklyn hit on 40.9 percent from the floor and 24.0 percent from the outside. 
 
The Bloodhounds held a slim 36-34 edge on the boards. John Jay capitalized on all 20 Brooklyn turnovers, scoring 20 points and also having 19 of their 76 points coming via the fast break. 
 
John Jay closes out the week with a home tilt against York on Friday, January 6 following the conclusion of the women's contest.
