BROOKLYN, NY - After beating Brooklyn College by seven at the Doghouse on Sunday afternoon, the John Jay men's basketball team squared off against the Bulldogs in a rematch on Tuesday night in Brooklyn. The Bloodhounds came out on top in overtime, 69-66, to earn the season sweep of Brooklyn. With the win, John Jay improves to 6-10 (4-3 CUNYAC) on the year, while the Bulldogs fall to 2-16 (1-7 CUNYAC) on the season.
The two teams were deadlocked at halftime, and the game remained close the entire second half. The largest lead of either team was eight, as John Jay took a 40-32 lead at the 13:27 mark after a pair of good free throws from sophomore
Dan Kenny. The Bulldogs fought back to tie the game at 56, and junior
Angel Rivera netted a go-ahead layup for John Jay with 54 seconds remaining that was quickly answered by Brooklyn to force OT. The Bloodhounds opened overtime on a 6-1 run over the first three minutes, capped by a three-pointer from freshman
Isaac Holmes, which would be enough to hold on for the victory.
Rivera had a game-high 22 points, and collected a double-double with 11 rebounds while chipping in five assists and three steals. Kenny also tallied a double-double, totaling 10 points and 12 rebounds. Holmes was the other Bloodhound in double-figures with 12 points. Freshman
Corey Jones Jr. added 10 rebounds and six points. Sophomore
