Men's Basketball Loses Battle with Lehman College in Overtime

NEW YORK, NY - Men's basketball fought until the very end, but came up just short in overtime against the Lehman College Lightning, 84-76, on Wednesday night at the Doghouse. John Jay falls to 9-12 (6-5 CUNYAC) on the season, while Lehman improves to 17-3 (10-2 CUNYAC) on the year.

After trailing by nine points at halftime, the Bloodhounds clawed their way back into the game quickly in the second period. A layup from junior Angel Rivera at the 11:58 mark put John Jay in front by two, and from that point on neither team led by more than five points in regulation. The Bloodhounds led by five points with just over a minute left, but a pair of clutch buckets by the Lighting tied the game and forced overtime, where they would win the game by eight.

Rivera dropped a team-high 21 points for the Bloodhounds while grabbing four rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Dan Kenny fell one rebound shy of a double-double, collecting 11 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Corey Jones Jr. and Freshman Frankie Barbato combined for 22 points and each hit two three-pointers. Freshman TJ Chisolm played stellar defense off the bench, drawing two charges and grabbing a steal to go with four points.

John Jay will be back at it again on Friday, February 11, against York College Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, NY. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
