NEW YORK, NY -- For just the second time since 2012, the men's volleyball team was able to win a set against Hunter College. Unfortunately, the Hawks still came out victorious in the match, defeating the Bloodhounds 3-1 (25-12, 21-25, 25-19, 25-22). John Jay falls to 2-6 (0-1 CUNYAC) on the season, while Hunter improves to 1-5 (1-0 CUNYAC) on the year.
After a rough start in set one, the Bloodhounds came alive in set two and the Doghouse was rocking. Hunter led 19-18, and was on verge of a sweep, when a service ace from freshman
Logan Ramos ignited a 4-0 Bloodhound run to give John Jay a 22-19 lead. A kill from freshman
Stephen De Stefani put the finishing touches on the set, and helped John Jay take one from the Hawks for just the second time in program history. Hunter bounced back in the two ensuing games, and went on to win the match 3-1.
Freshman
Akashdeep Singh led John Jay with seven kills in the match and added a career-high five total blocks. Sophomore
Jack Nugent chipped in six kills and also had five total blocks. Sophomore
Manuel Peralta had a team-high 19 assists and also had a career-high five total blocks. Sophomore
Bryce Glasper led John Jay with eight digs. Freshman
Kyle Barriffe-Johnson wanted in on the party and also set a career-high with five total blocks. Ramos and De Stefani had four kills each, and Ramos added two service aces.
The Bloodhounds will be back at it on Thursday, March 3 when they travel to the Bronx to take on Lehman College in a CUNYAC duel. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
