BROOKLYN, NY -- The men's volleyball team took on the Brooklyn College Bulldogs at the West Quad Center in Brooklyn on Tuesday evening, and won the crucial CUNYAC match in five sets (25-22, 24-26, 25-21, 19-25, 15-8). With the win, the Bloodhounds improve to 8-10 (6-4 CUNYAC) on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 6-15 (3-9 CUNYAC) on the year.
The Bloodhounds won the first set of the day, and were on the verge of taking the second set as they held a 24-22 lead, but the Bulldogs scored the next four points to come from behind and even up the match. Brooklyn could have seized momentum with that comeback, but John Jay was able to fend off the Bulldogs in set three after a kill from freshman
Stephen De Stefani sealed the win. The Bloodhounds could not close things out in set four, but cruised to a 15-8 win in the final game to secure the crucial victory.
Freshman
Akashdeep Singh led John Jay with 13 kills. Freshmen
Kyle Barriffe-Johnson and
Logan Ramos had 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Ramos made it a double-double by adding 11 digs. De Stefani chipped in eight kills. Sophomore
Jack Nugent had seven kills, six total blocks, and one ace for 14 points. Sophomore
Manuel Peralta dished out 29 assists and had six digs. Sophomore
Bryce Glasper collected 10 digs.
The Bloodhounds will look to build on this win when they return home to take on York on Thursday, March 31 at the Doghouse. First serve is set for 7 p.m. John Jay will honor its seniors prior to the game.
