NEW YORK, NY -- The men's volleyball team earned its second straight CUNYAC victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating the CCNY Beavers in five sets (25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 21-25, 15-10) at the Doghouse. With the win, John Jay improves to 4-6 (2-1 CUNYAC) on the year, while CCNY falls to 5-3 (1-2 CUNYAC) on the season.
The Bloodhounds seemed to be in control early on, winning the first two sets to go up 2-0 in the match. John Jay led 18-16 in set three and appeared to be on the verge of an easy victory, but the Beavers stormed back to win the third set and rode that momentum into set four and wound up tying the match at 2-2. The Bloodhounds led by three in the early portion of the deciding set when back-to-back kills from freshmen
Logan Ramos and
Akashdeep Singh extended the lead to five and put John Jay in the drivers seat. The Bloodhounds won the game after a combined block from Singh and freshman
Kyle Barriffe-Johnson clinched the fifth set.
Singh collected a career-high 15 kills in the match to lead John Jay, while adding four digs, three total blocks, and two service aces. Sophomore
Jack Nugent also had a big game with 13 kills and five total blocks. Barriffe-Johnson also had a career-high in kills with nine while adding four total blocks. Ramos totaled seven kills and nine digs. Sophomore
Alex Bridgelall notched a double-double with 21 assists and 11 digs along with three service aces. Sophomore
Manuel Peralta added 25 assists and nine digs. Sophomore
Bryce Glasper chipped in 10 digs.
The Bloodhounds will seek their third straight win on Thursday, March 10 when they will hit the road to take on Baruch. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
