BRONX, NY -- The John Jay women's volleyball team picked up its fourth straight win to open the 2022 season with a 3-1 (25-17, 30-32, 25-12, 25-14) victory over CUNYAC foe Lehman College. The Bloodhounds improve to a perfect 4-0 on the season, while the Lightning drop to 1-3 on the year.
Despite this contest not counting for the conference standings, it goes down as John Jay's eighth consecutive win over Lehman, dating all the way back to 2015.
John Jay and Lehman kicked off the match by trading points leading to a 7-7 tie in the first set. From there, a kill from sophomore
Paige Sadowitz helped spark a 9-0 Bloodhounds run to put them in control. They would eventually close out the set to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Set two was as intense as they come. John Jay scored the first six points of the game to take an early lead, but the Lighting slowly battled back and eventually tied it at 23-23. The teams would trade points until the score eventually reached 30-30, and that was when the Lightning were able to rattle off two consecutive points and steal the game.
The Bloodhounds opened set three with the same intensity as set two, with a 4-0 run, but this time would not relinquish the lead. John Jay's advantage eventually grew to 22-12, when a kill from sophomore
Faith Harer sparked a mini 3-0 run to close out the set.
John Jay would coast to an easy win in the fourth set and win the match 3-1.
Harer had a match-high 13 kills to go with three service aces, three digs, and three assists. Freshman
Rylea Sandel chipped in nine kills and five digs. Sophomore
Amanda Marte just missed out on a double-double, collecting eight kills and nine digs. Sophomore
Meghan Smith dished out a match-high 26 assists. Sophomore
Kristin Gretener paced John Jay with 10 digs.
