NEW YORK, NY -- In the 2022 home opener on Friday evening at the Doghouse, the John Jay women's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season, losing 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-16) to Farmingdale State. The Bloodhounds drop to 4-1 on the season, while the Rams improve to 1-3 on the year.
Farmingdale State won the first two sets, but John Jay would not go down without a fight in the third set. After the Rams took a quick 10-4 lead, the Bloodhounds rattled off five consecutive points, ignited by a kill from sophomore
Johnelle Pierre and capped by a kill from sophomore
Reilly Catan, to cut the deficit to just one. However, the Rams were able to answer the John Jay run with a 7-2 run of their own to regain control of the set. Farmingdale State would go on to win the set and close out the match in a sweep.
Sophomore
Faith Harer paced John Jay with seven kills. Catan chipped in four kills and a team-high 11 digs. Sophomore
Meghan Smith collected 13 assists. Sophomore
Taylor Hunt and
Kristin Gretener had five digs each.
John Jay has the weekend off and will return to the court on Tuesday, September 20. The Bloodhounds will face off against Lehman College for the second time this season in the team's first CUNYAC match of the year. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Bronx.
