Women's Volleyball Defeated in Three Sets by Pratt Institute at the Doghouse

NEW YORK, NY- The John Jay women's volleyball team returned to the Doghouse on Thursday evening to take on non-conference foe Pratt Institute, but lost to the Cannoneers in three sets (25-23, 25-18, 25-22). The Bloodhounds fall to 6-4 on the season while Pratt improves to 7-5 on the year.

The Bloodhounds stormed right out of the gate to a 9-2 lead early in the first set behind two kills from sophomore Faith Harer. The Cannoneers, however, would rally for seven consecutive points to tie up the game, and never seemed to lose momentum from that point on throughout the entire night. Pratt would battle to a 25-23 set one win, and seize control of the match.

In set two, The Cannoneers took an early 14-10 lead, but the Bloodhounds scored four straight points to tie the game thanks to a kill from sophomores Paige Sadowitz and Reilly Catan, along with a service ace from sophomore Meghan Smith. The two teams traded points until Pratt led 19-18, which is when the Cannoneers fired off a 6-0 run to go up 2-0 in the match.

Set three was much of the same, seeing Pratt march out to a 24-19 lead. John Jay fought back with a 3-0 run, but the Cannoneers were able to fend off the comeback attempt to finalize the sweep.

Harer led the Bloodhounds with seven kills in the match. Smith and sophomore Taylor Hunt had seven digs each, while the Smith also added 18 assists.

John Jay will hit the road again on Saturday, October 1 and travel to upstate New York for a doubleheader against SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson University. First serve against Clarkson is set for noon, and the match against Potsdam is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
