LONGMEADOW, MA-- The women's volleyball team opened the 2022 season by sweeping a pair of matches over Bay Path University on Friday night in Massachusetts. The Bloodhounds swept the first game (25-14, 25-17, 25-18), and then went on to win game two, 3-1 (27-25, 16-25, 25-12, 25-19). John Jay goes to 2-0 on the season, while the Wildcats drop to 1-2 on the year.
Sophomore
Faith Harer had a game-high 12 kills in the first match, while adding nine digs and two service aces. Sophomore
Meghan Smith collected 22 assists and four digs. Sophomore
Taylor Hunt led the match with 12 digs. Sophomores
Reilly Catan and
Rylea Sandel had seven and six kills, respectively.
The Bloodhounds dominance on the offensive end continued into game two, despite dropping one set. Harer led John Jay once again with 10 kills, giving her 22 on the day, while notching a double-double with 10 digs. Smith continued her impressive setting by dishing out 38 assists. Sophomore
Kristin Gretener had a team-high 19 digs. Sandel and Sophomores
Paige Sadowitz and
Amanda Marte combined for 23 kills.
John Jay will look to build on the 2-0 start on Wednesday, September 7 when they travel to Brooklyn to take on St. Joseph's Brooklyn. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
