Green And Zeolla Register Double-Doubles As Women's Basketball Defeats Lehman On Saturday

New York, NY - Five Bloodhounds reached double-figures with Bobbi Green and Ashley Zeolla registering double-doubles as the John Jay women's basketball team defeated the visiting Lehman College Lightning, 84-49, on Saturday afternoon at The Doghouse.

With the win, the Bloodhounds improve to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play. Lehman falters to 6-9 overall and 2-3 in league contests.

"A dominant performance on the boards combined with the fast offensive pace helped us secure another great team win," commented head coach Lynda Day. "Ayanna (Edwards) sparked things off the bench, pushing tempo each and every time. Bobbi (Green) played great defense against one of the top scorers in the league."

Kamryn Hammond led all John Jay scorers with 17 points, nine of which coming from three-point range.

Green notched her fifth double-double of the season, finishing the contest with 13 points and recording 12 caroms in the victory.

Zeolla matched Green, recording her first double-double of the year, scoring 10 points and grabbing a season-high 11 rebounds.

Katie Healy was the fourth Bloodhound in double-digits, scoring 12 points on 6 of 12 shooting while grabbing eight rebounds in 22 minutes of action.

The Merrick, NY native eclipsed the 1,400 career point threshold in the contest, now standing at 1,409. Additionally, Healy inched closer to 1,000 career rebounds, as the veteran forward has 986 following the conclusion of today's game.

Chayanne Kelly netted 11 points in a reserve role in 20 minutes of action while Tiffany Bogle scored nine points and grabbed a team and game-high 14 rebounds.

Lehman had two players finish in double-figures, led by Brianna Barnes, who led all scorers with 20 points on 6 of 15 shooting from the floor while hitting on 8 of 11 from the free-throw line in her 36 minutes of play.

Barbara Valentin added 12 points while swiping a team-leading five steals in playing the full forty minutes.

Lehman opened the scoring with a triple from Valentin before Zeolla responded with a left-handed hook shot down in the low-post.

The Bloodhounds outscored the Lightning, 9-3, over a three-minute stretch in building an 11-6 lead after Hammond completed the traditional three-point play from the line.

Barnes brought the visitors back as they claimed a 14-13 lead after the first quarter as she accounted for all eight points over the four-minute span.

The Bloodhound offense came out in full force to open the second quarter, opening the frame on a 14-2 run in building a 27-16 lead after Healy converted on a layup off the feed from Zeolla.

John Jay went 6 of 12 during the run while hitting 2 of 3 from the outside and limiting the visitors to just a 1 of 5 start, as Natalie Kola had the lone basket to open the frame for before Ramatoulaye Diallo hit a three-pointer to stop the run.

Despite both teams struggling down the stretch, John Jay built an 11-point halftime lead, 32-21 after Bogle converted on one of two from the line.

Both teams opened the second half shooting at an efficient clip with the two combining to shoot 8 of 15 from the field with John Jay remaining in front by 11, 41-30, at the 5:34 mark.

The Bloodhounds continued to apply pressure and built a near 30 point advantage on the strength of a 17-0 run to close out the third quarter as John Jay led 58-30 following an Ayanna Edwards layup off the steal.

John Jay went 6 of 13 from the floor and 3 of 4 from three-point range during the four and half minute run while limiting the visitors to just five attempts and forcing six turnovers.

The two clubs traded baskets to start the fourth quarter, as John Jay did increase the lead to 30, 70-40, following a Green layup.

The Bloodhounds cleaned up around the glass, outmuscling the Lightning, 69-25, thanks in large part to a 33-4 edge on the offensive glass.
