Men's Basketball Stages Late Comeback But Falls Short At Home Against Lehman, 74-67, On Saturday

New York, NY - The John Jay men's basketball team found themselves down 55-38 five minutes into the second half. The Bloodhounds rallied to stage an epic 25-11 run over the next 12 minutes that saw the deficit diminish down to just three but couldn't complete the comeback attempt, falling to Lehman, 74-67, on Saturday afternoon. 

With the loss, John Jay falls to 3-13 on the year and 2-3 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action while the Lightning moves to 10-6 overall and 4-1 in league play. 
 
Three Bloodhounds reached double-figure scoring on the afternoon as Jayson Delgado poured in a team-leading 15 points on 5 of 10 shooting. The Floral Park, NY native dished out a team-high five assists while swiping two steals. Isaac Holmes and Dan Kenny each had 11 points with Holmes tying Garrison Watkins and Corey Jones Jr. for the team lead with six rebounds. 
 
Kai Parris was one of two Lehman players to net 20 or more points in leading a total of four players in double-figures. Parris posted a game-high 23 points on 9 of 14 shooting from the field while hitting on 5 of 5 from the free-throw line. Isaiah Geathers and Lasana Camara each registered a double-double with Geathers finishing with 21 points and 17 boards while Camara added 12 points and 11 caroms. 
 
Will Feldman was the fourth Lightning in double digits, scoring 10 points while distributing a game-high six assists in his 26 minutes of action. The Bloodhounds raced out to an early 5-2 lead as Holmes dialed up a three-pointer from the corner. Lehman nearly doubled up John Jay, embarking on a 14-4 run over a five-minute span in taking a 16-9 lead after Mo Idrissou connected on a triple from Marquese Johnson.The Bloodhounds stayed the course and rallied, responding with a 17-11 run of their own in closing the gap to just one, 27-26, after Jones Jr. converted on the putback layup. 
 
Lehman outscored John Jay, 13-8, over the final 4:35 in taking a 40-34 halftime despite Kenny scoring his 11th point of the half. The visitors converted on nearly 50.0 percent in the opening half while outrebounding the Bloodhounds, 23-19, in the opening twenty minutes. 

Lehman opened the second half of action on a 13-4 run, converting on 5 of 6 from the field with Parris anchoring the offense, scoring 11 of the 13 points during the run as they led 53-38 at the 16:07 mark. Following a layup from Camara that made it 55-38, the Bloodhounds staged a furious comeback attempt. 

Over the next 9:18 of the ballgame, John Jay cut the Lehman lead to on possession, 62-59, following Adrian Kopec's third three pointer of the half. The home team went 6 of 15 during the run with Kopeck scoring 9 of the 21 points. Feldman put a halt to the run with a layup of his own at the 4:38 mark that pushed the lead to 64-59. 
 
John Jay fought back, as Jones Jr. connected on a baseline jumper, making it 64-61 with 3:45 showing on the clock. Parris sank a pair of free-throws for the visitors, upping the lead to five, 66-61, but Watkins, on the ensuing possession, hit on a running jumper, cutting the lead back down to three, 66-63, with three minutes left. 

Down three, the Bloodhounds turned the ball over, which led to Geathers scoring on a mid-range jumper, increasing the lead back to five with thirty seconds remaining. 

The Lightning scored six of the final ten points all from the free-throw line as they held on for the seven-point triumph. The Bloodhounds shot 38.5 percent from the field while hitting on close to 30.0 percent from three-point range (7 of 24). Lehman held a 44-34 edge on the boards, highlighted by 30-22 advantage on the defensive glass. 
 
John Jay returns to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 18, as they will travel to Brooklyn to square off against Medgar Evers. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 p.m.
