Watkins and Kenny Register Double-Doubles In Leading Men's Basketball Past Medgar Evers On Wednesday

New York, NY - Garrison Watkins and Dan Kenny each produced double-doubles to lead five John Jay men's basketball players in double-figures as the Bloodhounds defeated Medgar Evers, 91-69, on Wednesday evening. 
 
With the win, the Bloodhounds improve to 4-13 overall and 3-3 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action while the Cougars fall to 4-13 and remain winless in conference tilts (0-6). 

"We are really proud of how our guys played tonight," commented head coach Ryan Hyland. "We talked a lot in pregame about having fun and playing for one another. I thought our guys carried that mentality out on the court tonight."
 
Watkins led all scorers with 25 points on an efficient 10 of 13 shooting display from the field in 34 minutes of action. He registered his first double-double of the season, grabbing a team-high 12 caroms while also dishing out five helpers in the win. 

"Garrison was fantastic tonight," added Hyland. "He was tough, poised and decisive like we needed him to be. We couldn't have asked for him to anything more." 
 
Kenny also recorded his first double-double of the season, tallying 17 points and 11 rebounds while recording two blocks in his 22 minutes of play. 

"With Dan on the court, playing like he has the last two games, we are just a different team," mentioned Hyland. "He naturally provides us with a formidable presences inside and allows us to slide some guys back to positions that will make them flourish," Coach Hyland stated when asked about Kenny's performance this evening.
 
Isaac Holmes and Corey Jones Jr. each finished with 12 points. Holmes distributed seven assists while Jones Jr. added six rebounds while the two logged 34 and 27 minutes, respectively. 
 
Delgado netted 11 points on 4 of 10 shooting from the field. Jordan Evelyn and Adrian Kopec netted six points apiece with Evelyn serving up eight assists in the victory. 
 
Medgar Evers had four players score in double-figures, led by Jacob Green, who concluded the contest with 19 points on 7 of 14 shooting from the floor. He displayed a 5 of 9 marksmanship from three-point range in his 32 minutes of action while dishing out seven assists. 
 
Joshua Jean Pierre was a rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 18 points and nine boards on 8 of 17 shooting. 
 
Mousa Sinera posted a 14-point, 14 rebound outing in 37 minutes while hitting 7 of 11 from the field before fouling out. 
 
Andre Evans Jr. was the fourth Cougar in double-figures, chipping in 11 points, five rebounds, eight assists and three steals in 39 minutes. 
 
Both teams traded buckets during the early portion of the first half, as John Jay claimed a 18-17 lead with under 12 minutes till halftime on a Watkins layup. 
 
The Bloodhounds embarked on a 13-0 run building a 30-17 lead with 6:39 remaining before halftime. Sinera hit a jumper in the paint to halt the run. 
 
John Jay ran its lead to 22, 48-26, following a pair of made free-throws by Delgado before Medgar Evers rattled off five straight points, capped by a Jacob Green three-pointer. 
 
When play resumed for the second half, both teams couldn't find their earlier momentum, before Delgado converted on a layup to get the scoring going for the visitors, 54-33. 
 
Medgar Evers trimmed the deficit to 13, 66-53, following Evans Jr. hitting the front-end of a two-shot foul with 9:04 left to play in regulation.
 
The Bloodhounds started to pull away, courtesy of a 19-7 run that saw the lead escalate to 85-60 following Jones Jr. completing the traditional three-point from the line at the 3:51 mark. 
 
Medgar Evers scored nine of the final 15 points of the contest as the Bloodhounds posted a 91-69 road win to even their conference mark at 3-3. 
 
John Jay held a 42-39 edge on the boards, despite Medgar Evers holding an 18-11 edge on the offensive glass. 
 
The Bloodhounds forced 15 turnovers and scored 25 points off those mishaps. Of the 91 points, 48 was credited inside the paint while getting valuable bench contributions, accounting for 31 points. 
 
John Jay returns to The Doghouse on Saturday as they will play host to Baruch at 3:00 p.m.
